LPS corals
beginnerFrogspawn coral
Euphyllia divisa
Quick reference
Min tank size
20 US gal
20 gal — most forgiving Euphyllia. Stable nano-reefers run them successfully in 10 gal AIOs.
PAR
50–150 µmol/m²/s
Flow
medium
Placement
Mid-tank or lower rockwork. Tolerates more light than torches but still wants indirect flow.
Temperature
76–80 °F (24–26.5 °C)
Salinity
1.025–1.026 SG
pH
8.1–8.4
Alkalinity
8–10 dKH
Calcium
420–440 ppm
Magnesium
1,300–1,400 ppm
Feeding
Photosynthetic. Optional spot-feeding 1× week with mysis or LPS pellets. Will accept food at night when polyps fully extend.
Compatibility
Same-genus Euphyllia generally OK to touch. 4–6 inch sting range. Don't mix with non-Euphyllia LPS (chalices, hammers from a different parent colony) without buffer space.
What kills it
Alkalinity swings. Brown jelly. Bristleworms in the branching skeleton. Aiptasia outcompeting in the early stages.
Common mistakes
- •Underestimating the colony's full extension when fragging — leave 6+ inches of space.
- •High flow placement causing tentacles to retract permanently.
Equipment & food for this species
LPS appreciate weekly target-feeding. CoralRx dip on new frags catches brown jelly and bristleworm hitchhikers.
CoralRx Pro coral dip
Iodine-based dip. Kills AEFW, red bugs, flatworms.
