Accessibility
How reefcalcs works toward WCAG 2.2 AA, what we check, the limits we know about, and how to tell us about a barrier.
Our goal
We want every calculator, guide and care sheet on reefcalcs to work for everyone, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, zoom or high-contrast settings. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We don't claim the whole site meets every criterion yet; this page says what we do and where we know we fall short.
What we do
- Pages use real headings, lists, tables and landmarks, with one main heading per page and a "Skip to content" link.
- Form fields have labels, and calculators use standard form controls and buttons that work with a keyboard.
- We check text contrast against its background when we build and change pages.
- Results are written out as text, never only as a colour or a picture.
- Pages reflow on a phone-width screen without the page scrolling sideways.
- The site has no autoplaying audio or video and no time limits.
Known limits
- The saltwater compatibility chart shows the reason for each mark on hover. The same reasons are written out in the fish-by-fish list on that page.
- Some wide tables scroll sideways inside their box on small screens.
- Linked sources, sponsors' sites and Amazon product pages are run by others, and we can't fix their accessibility.
Tell us about a barrier
If something on reefcalcs is hard or impossible for you to use, email hello@reefcalcs.com with the page address and what happened. We aim to reply within five business days, and we will give you the information you were after in a form that works for you while we fix the page.
