Acidity / alkalinity scale. Reef target: 8.1–8.4.

pH is set by atmospheric CO₂ and tank alkalinity. Closed houses with elevated CO₂ pull pH down — the most common cause of 'low pH' in winter is room CO₂, not low alk.
